abstract The invention provides a fluorescent dye based on the firefly luciferin structure. These dyes are optimally excited at shorter wavelengths and have a Stokes shift of at least 50 nm. The fluorescent dyes of the present invention can be used to prepare dye-conjugates that can be used for the detection of analytes in samples.
