Friction materials made with resins containing polar functional groups |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a friction material that has a base material impregnated with at least one resin having at least one type of functional group that interacts with the additives in the lubricant. In the preferred embodiment, the resin is a hydroxyl or aldehyde modified phenolic. The heat of absorption, or the interaction energy, of the modified resins to friction modifier additives are larger than the heat of absorption of non-modifed phenolic resins when compared to the same friction modifier additives or similar mimic compounds. |
