abstract | Perfume compsns. for imparting or building the fragrance of sandalwood oil contain as active ingredient 1-furfuryl-pyrrole (I) in combination with a phenolic cpd., and a sesquiterpene cpd. having a camphorated and/or woody smell.The compsns. are made from easily available materials and have a fragrance which closely resembles natural sandalwood oil. Pref. phenolic cpds. are eugenol, cresol, p-vinylphenol, p-vinylguaiacol, isoeugenol, 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol, 2,6-dimethoxy-4-allylphenyl, creosol, p-ethylguaiacol or mixts. of these. The sesquiterpene cpd. is pref. alpha-santalal, beta-santalal, alpha-santalol or beta-santalol. Pref. the wt. ratio I:phenolic cpd(s): sesquiteerpene(s) is 1:1:20 to 5:1:1000. |
