abstract The present invention relates to an addition reaction between dilacyl phosphite anion and acid chloride to yield 1-hydroxybisphosphonates and substituted hydroxybisphosphonates. Preferably, this reaction is carried out at a low base temperature so as to minimize the transfer to dialkyl (dialkoxyphosphinyl) phosphates.
