| abstract | Described is a process for preparing a topical anti-inflammatory / analgesic pharmaceutical strip, in aqueous dispersion with or without an organic solvent, characterized in that it has a phase of mixing piroxicam in an aqueous adhesive base, containing an alkaline agent and optionally an organic soluble agent, the agent is a lower alkanolamine or ammonium hydroxide and said soluble agent is a pharmaceutically acceptable polar protic or aprotic organic solvent, followed by subjecting the resulting aqueous organic mixture to constant stirring to form a homogeneous pharmaceutical composition suitable for use in the form of a strip; the amounts of the ingredients are such as to provide a topical pharmaceutical composition thus formed, with from about 0.1% to about 2.0% by weight of piroxicam, from about 0 to about 20 parts by weight of solvent agent per 1 part by weight of piroxicam, and an aqueous adhesive base in a sufficient amount up to a total of 100%, said composition has a pH in the range of about 4.0 to about 9.0. |
