abstract Methods and apparatus for determining the time of death of an organism. One aspect of the present invention comprises the use of high resolution image cytometry to capture images, preferably digitized of cell nuclei. Such images are analyzed for cellular features that correlate to progressive changes that occur post-mortem in cells and that can be used to retroactively estimate the amount of time that has passed since the time of death of the organism.
