titleOfInvention A catheter introducer for antegrade and retrograde medical procedures
abstract A catheter introducer (C) for antegrade and retrograde medical procedures includes a generally tubular introducer member (14) having proximal and distal ends. The introducer member (14) includes a lumen (20) for receiving a guide wire (GW) during a medical procedure, which guide wire (GW) includes a distal end traveling in a first direction. The catheter introducer (C) further includes an occlusion member (28) adjacent the distal end (16) thereof for altering the traveling direction of the distal end of the guide wire (GW) to a second direction. The catheter introducer (C) of the invention can be easily used for performing angioplasty on tandem or segmental lesions in one procedure using antegrade and retrograde approaches.
