An aromatic polycarbonate is subjected to transesterification with an active-hydrogen compound in the presence of a transesterification catalyst under vacuum conditions. The reaction product is reacted with a salicylic ester derivative represented by formula (1), wherein X represents methyl or ethyl; and Y represents carbonyl or a divalent functional group represented by formula (2), wherein Z represents C1-30 alkylene, C6-30 arylene, or C7-30 aralkylene. Thus, a high-molecular aromatic polycarbonate is obtained. |
