abstract The invention relates to a method for determining an angled structure, for example in the form of grooves, in the surface of a precision machined cylindrical piece, especially pertaining to the ground counterrotation surface of the rotary shaft sealing rings. The inventive method is characterized in that at least one image of the illuminated surface of the work piece is taken by a camera. Said image represents the angled structure in the surface of the work piece. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out a method according to one of the preceding claims which is characterized by a CCD camera having a macro lens, a radial bearing device for the work piece, an illuminating device, and an image input and processing device.
