A catalyst for olefin polymer production which comprises (a) a pentacoordinate organic aluminum oxide compound, (b) an alkylating agent, and (c) a compound of a transition metal in Group IV, V, VI, or VIII of the Periodic Table. In the presence of the catalyst, an olefin is caused to homopolymerize or is copolymerized with other olefin(s) to produce an olefin polymer. Thus, by using the pentacoordinate organic aluminum oxide compound, which is relatively inexpensive and easily producible, an olefin polymer can be produced in a high yield without using methylaluminoxane, which has low solubility and poor storage stability, as a promoter. |
