abstract The invention relates to a method for the production of 1-(2-sulphoethyl)-pyridinium betaine, whereby pyridine is reacted with a sulphoethylating reagent from a group comprising carbyl sulphate, ethionic acid or the salt thereof and vinyl sulphonic acid or vinyl sulphonate, and the reaction occurs in an aqueous solution or in pyridine.
