Chemical or biological species sensing apparatus utilizing optical fiber and remote monitor system using same |
abstract |
The reflection type species sensing apparatus for sensing the existence and/or concentration of a chemical or biological species comprises a light source (2), a sensor (4) having a reflecting film (6) arranged at one end thereof, adapted to receive light emitted from the light source to transmit the light therethrough, and to transmit the light reflected off the reflecting film in the opposite direction, and exhibiting a measurable change in light transmission characteristic in an environment where a chemical or biological species exits, and light transmitting/extracting unit (8) arranged between the light source and the other end of the sensor for transmitting light from the light source so that the light is incident on the other end of the sensor, and for outputting the reflected light reflected off the reflecting film. A signal corresponding to the reflected light is used to sense the existence of a species or the like. |
