Process for separating the carbon mesophase |
abstract |
New process for separating the isotropic and anisotropic (mesophase) phases of tars through hot filtration. The process is based on the differences of the softening points of the two phases and using an intermediary temperature between the two softening points. Thereby, a system is configured which has the behaviour of a solid suspended in a viscous liquid, enabling the separation of the two phases by simple filtration. Applications: fabrication of carbon fibers. |
