abstract | A method and apparatus for determining the stretching characteristics of a polymer composition suitable for use in manufacturing a thermoplastic article, such as a bottle and preferably a bottle having PET, PEN and mixtures thereof, are provided. The method includes the steps of heating a bottle preform of the polymer composition to at least its glass transition temperature then free-blowing the preform in a manner so that the inflation pressure is varied inversely relative to the expansion of the article during at least a portion of the inflation step. An apparatus for free-blowing the thermoplastic articles in accordance with the method is also disclosed. |
