abstract An intra vaginal device for delivering a pharmaceutical agent (e.g. progesterone) into a recipient mammal. The active agent is carried in a matrix of a biodegradable polymer (such as poly ε-caprolactone or a starch-like polysaccharide) having an ability to provide (without reliance on a supporting spine) desired retention characteristics of a variable geometry retention device, an appropriate release profile during a finite insertion period and biodegradability upon removal from the mammal.
