abstract The present invention relates to annealed and photochromic 2H- and 3H-naphtopyran systems which are essentially used for colouring the lenses of glasses made of plastic material. This invention also relates to a method for producing these systems as well as to the use thereof. The photochromic 2H- and 3H-naphtopyrans of the present invention correspond to the structural formulae (I) and (II), wherein the substituents are such as described in the first claim. The compounds of the present invention are characterised by their absorption capacity in a much higher range of wavelengths as well as by an extended life-time relative to known compounds, which results in photochromic colouring agents that can be used in a wide range of applications.
