abstract The invention relates to novel catalysts with a base consisting of compounds of the rare earth metals, comprising a compound of the rare earth metals, a cyclopentadiene and an aluminium oxane. The invention also relates to the use of the novel catalysts for polymerising unsaturated compounds, especially conjugated dienes. A considerably higher proportion of laterally bonded vinyl groups can be obtained in the polymer using the novel catalyst system.
