titleOfInvention Materials and methods for selecting phage displaying ligand binders
abstract Materials and methods for selecting phages displaying ligand binders that are capable of specifically binding to a target ligand are provided that employ the infectivity of phage towards different types of bacteria. In the method, a library of ligand binders are displayed on the surface of phage particles, the phage being restricted not to infect bacteria having a first type of infection mediating structure, but capable of infecting bacteria having a second type of infection mediating structure. The phage are contacted with an infection mediating complex comprising a target ligand and a component capable of mediating infection via the first type of infection mediating structure so that the specific binding of a ligand binder displayed on the phage and the target ligand causes the phage to become infective towards bacteria having the first type of infection mediating structure.
