A process for producing diaryl sulfide derivatives useful as intermediates for medicinal compounds and a process for producing dibenzo[b,f]thiepine derivatives by using the intermediates. A halogen-substituted phenyl derivative represented by general formula (1) (wherein X is halogeno and R1 to R5 each is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower cycloalkyl, aryl, halogeno, lower alkoxy, amino, lower N-acylamino, nitro, lower alkylthio, or carboxy) is reacted in the presence of a metal catalyst with a disulfide derivative represented by general formula (2) (wherein R6 to R10 have the same meaning as R1 to R5) to give a diaryl sulfide derivative represented by general formula (3) or a salt thereof. The diaryl sulfide derivative or its salt gives benzo[b,f]thiepine derivatives as medicinal compounds by known techniques. |
