abstract An apparatus is provided with a storage medium (508) having stored therein programming instructions that implement a set of communication services for processing voice calls, and an execution unit (502) coupled to the storage medium for executing the programming instructions. The communication services include services for notifying an automated attendant service of call events, and receiving customized call processing directions from the automated attendant service, thereby allowing customized call processing to be provided for calls processed by the apparatus.
