titleOfInvention Nuclear magnetic resonance determination of the absolute configuration of amino-acids or their derivatives and chiroporphyrin metallic complexes used for this determination
abstract The invention concerns novel chiroporphyrin metallic complexes of formula (I) capable of fixing on an axial co-ordination site an alpha -amino acid or a derivative thereof carrying an asymmetric carbon, and thus act as chiral agent of chemical shift. The complexation in the proximity of porphyrin brings about a shift with a high field of alpha -amino acid proton NMR signals, as well as modifications of some porphyrin proton NMR signals. These shifts are typical of the R or S configuration of the asymmetric carbon. Thus the examination of the NMR <1>H spectrum constitutes an easy way for determining the absolute configuration of the alpha -amino acid or derivative, and for detecting the racemization of these compounds.
