Liquid-crystal compounds useful as the liquid-crystal material for low-voltage driven TFT-type liquid-crystal display devices, which exhibit a high voltage retention and a remarkably high Δε value and are electrically and chemically stable and excellent in compatibility with existing liquid-crystal compounds; liquid-crystal compositions containing the same; and liquid-crystal display devices made by using the same. The above compounds are particular dioxane derivatives of general formula (1), and the above compositions contain at least one of the derivatives. |
