abstract An excellent aqueous resin composition, that is, an aqueous resin composition which is soluble or dispersible in water, can reduce the organic solvent content of a paint, has excellent curability, water resistance, processability, heat resistance, and hardness equivalent to those of a hydrophobic amino resin, and can reduce the amount of tarry matter adherent to a drying oven, and an aqueous paint comprising the aqueous resin composition. The aqueous resin composition comprises an amino resin (A) prepared from an amino compound (a) having at least one carboxyl group in the phenyl group of benzoguanamine and represented by chemical formula (1) and an aqueous resin (B) having a functional group reactive with the amino resin (A). The aqueous paint comprises the aqueous resin composition as the indispensable component.
