abstract |
Light for photodynamic therapy is applied by passing light emitting particles, preferably smaller than about 5 ν in diameter, into the bloodstream of a mammalian subject so that the particles are distributed through the tissue to be treated. Because the particles are widely distributed, the light need not penetrate through substantial thicknesses of tissue to reach the cells to be treated. Therefore, photosensitizers which are sensitive to light at essentially any wavelength can be utilized. |
