abstract The invention relates to the use of a carrier material in the form of a moulded structure, loose feed of the sorption material in the form of particles, in the form of a gel or a dispersion for preparation and detection of samples which are examined by a genetic-engineering analysis process. The carrier material has at least one constituent for carrying out solid phase assays, is permeable to a fluid, has an average pore diameter of 0.1 to 100 νm and no or a very low unspecified sorption capacity for affinity materials. The carrier material is standardised so that the component present in a certain unit volume thereof for carrying out solid phase assays (affinity material) binds its complementary constituent, during single homogenous passage of a certain amount of a diluted solution of the complementary constituent at a particular concentration, specifically at an amount which varies by a charging value of ± 40 % between a plurality of statistically relevant charging operations. The bound amount remains constant in the said range for a plurality of subsequent flow operations of suitable fluids on the carrier material such as blocking of specified or unspecified adsorption points, washing of the carrier material charged with the constituent for carrying out the solid phase assay, and delivery of affinity-reactive materials.
