abstract |
The present invention relates to a fuel composition for fast-neutron reactors that comprises fissile material oxide, magnesium oxide and α-iron. This composition is characterised by the fact that it contains no more than 75 % of α-iron but at least 10 % of magnesium oxide. This invention also relates to a method for preparing this fuel composition for fast-neutron reactors, wherein said method comprises the following steps: preparing solutions of fissile materials; subjecting the solutions to precipitation with ammonia; thermally processing the powder until fissile material oxides are obtained; press-forming the oxides and eventually baking the resulting pellets. This method is characterised by the fact that magnesium and iron solutions are added during the solution preparation step and that iron is reduced into its metallic state. |
