titleOfInvention Method of obtaining 1,2-dichloroethane
abstract 1,2-Dichloroethane is obtained from the reaction between chlorine and ethylene in a liquid 1,2-dichloroethane medium at a temperature of between 20 °C and the boiling temperature of the reaction material in the presence of a catalyst of formula MCln.Lm, in which Cl is chlorine, M is iron (n = 2, 3), aluminium (n = 3), tin (n = 2, 4), antimony (n = 5); and L is trimethylamine (m = 1, 3), triethylamine (m = 1, 3), pyridine (m = 1, 2, 3, 4), 1-(2-chloroethyl)trimethylammonium chloride (m = 1), 1-(2-chloroethyl)-triethylammonium chloride (m = 1), 1-(2-chloroethyl)pyridine chloride (m = 1), or pyridine chlorhydrate (m = 1). Chlorination is carried out in a reactor at a temperature of 20-75 °C. The product is then introduced with the catalyst into an ethylene chlorination reactor operating at the boiling temperature of the reaction material with the same catalyst. From the top of the reactor 1,2-dichloroethane is removed as vapour while the catalyst is removed at the bottom and returned to the reactor operating at a temperature of 20-75 °C. The process is conducted with a catalyst content in the reaction material of 0.01-10 wt.%.
