abstract Disclosed is a method of caring for soft tissue edema selected from the group consisting of facial edema, abdominal edema, edema of the hip area and edema of the breast area in females caused by injury which comprises administration to a mammal who does not have evidence of neurological head or spinal cord injury who is in need of treatment for edema with an edema reducing effective amount of tirilazad or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
