titleOfInvention Selective cell separation
abstract A method for separating a mixture of cells in suspension is described. A suspension of cells is provided which has a first cell type and a second cell type. A porous material which has a bound ligand is also provided. The bound ligand is able to additionally bind to cells of the first cell type. The suspension of cells is contacted with the porous material which has the bound ligand under conditions which allow cells of the first cell type to bind to the bound ligand so as to form a porous material-ligand-cell complex. This complex is treated so as to substantially remove the second cell type from the porous material. A back pressure is applied across the porous material-ligand-cell complex so as to detach the first cell type from the complex, and the detached cells are then recovered.
