titleOfInvention | Method for purifying methanesulphonyl chloride |
abstract | A method for purifying methanesulphonyl chloride (MSC) and particularly for substantially reducing the amount of sulphuric acid that would otherwise be contained in methanesulphonic acid produced at a later stage by hydrolysing MSC. According to the method, MSC is treated with at least one powdered or shaped solid selected from (1) activated charcoals; (2) substances known to be convertible into water-insoluble SO42- counter-cations; (3) inorganic solids known to be capable of trapping SO¿4?2- anions in aqueous media by means of an exchange with other anions in the structures of said solids; (4) anion exchange resins known to be capable of trapping SO¿4?2- anions in aqueous media by means of an exchange with other anions in the structures of said resins; and (5) solids known to be capable of interacting with SO¿4?2- anions in aqueous media, the purified MSC then being separated from the solid phase with which the sulphates to be removed have combined. |
