abstract This invention relates to certain novel chemical compounds which inhibit the binding of a Rev protein to a Rev response element. These compounds reduce the binding activity of the protein to the response element by at least about 50 % and preferably 90 % or more. Another embodiment relates to a method for inhibiting the binding of a Rev protein to a Rev response element by administering one of these compounds to a subject in vitro.
