A system of inks for bi-level printing is disclosed. The system includes yellow ink of full intensity, cyan, magenta and black inks of 1/3 full intensity, and cyan, magenta and black inks of 2/3 full intensity. When printed at 800 dpi, this ink system achieves a visual image quality which is comparable to printing with four colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) at 1,600 dpi. There is also a significant reduction in the visual effect of 'pepper' noise. An alternative system which uses only a single full intensity black ink is disclosed. This system is suitable for printing devices where the image quality of black and white continuous tone images is less important than the image quality of full color images. |
