abstract The invention is concerned with a process for the production of modified SiO2 aerogels, in which (a) a silicatic lyogel is produced, (b) the lyogel produced in (a) is subjected to a solvent exchange to give another organic solvent, (c) the gel obtained in step (a) or (b) is reacted with at least one chlorine-free silylation agent and (d) the gel obtained in step (c) is subjected to subcritical drying; and use thereof.
