The invention concerns a process for producing and purifying perylene-3,4-dicarboxylic acid imides by reaction of a perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid or corresponding anhydrides using a primary amine: reaction is carried out in the presence of a tertiary nitrogen base compound as the solvent and a transition metal or transition metal salt as the catalyst. The invention further concerns the purification of perylene-3,4-dicarboxylic acid imides obtained by reaction of a perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid or corresponding anhydrides using a primary amine: the raw products are first heated in N-methyl pyrrolidone, the N-methyl pyrrolidone adducts thus produced are treated with a base in the presence of an organic diluting agent, and the products subsequently isolated undergo further treatment if necessary with an aqueous acid. The invention also concerns novel perylene-3,4-dicarboxylic acid imides and the use thereof as fluorescence dyes, pigments or pigment additive precursors. |
