abstract A display device employing a multi-line driving method, which improves display quality by applying contrivances to the construction of a data line driving circuit and a scanning line driving circuit. Frame memories (252) are prepared for two frames, for example, and they are alternately switched between input and output for each frame. When the memory of only one frame is used, the data corresponding to the number of scanning lines driven simultaneously are gathered together and simultaneously written. In this way, the deterioration of display quality can be prevented. A decoder in a data line driving circuit is formed into a ROM (262). Accordingly, the construction of the data line driving circuit can be simplified. The voltage applied to each data line is fixed during the period in which it does not contribute to image display. In this way, cross-talk can be prevented. Data necessary for selecting a scanning line and data necessary for determining a voltage to be applied to the scanning line are separately processed in a scanning line driving circuit (2200). In this way, the construction of the scanning line driving circuit can be simplified. When a scanning voltage pattern is periodically changed, the scanning line driving circuit and the data line driving circuit exchange information on the scanning voltage pattern with each other.
