Liner lacquering in a marine diesel engine operating on a marine diesel fuel of a quality capable of giving rise to liner lacquering, typically one having a 90 % volume recovery during distillation temperature greater than 340 °C and an aromatics content greater than 25 %, is reduced thereby reducing lubricating oil consumption by adding to the fuel a liner lacquering reducing amount of a fuel-soluble composition comprising: (A) at least one diesel detergent, and (B) at least one cetane improver. |
