abstract The proposal is for a novel, highly sensitive sensor principle, the bio-recognition-controlled, ion-flow modulating bio-sensor with the theoretical sensitivity of a single analyte molecule which makes use of the bond of effector molecules, in which effector molecules are any which bond to a ligand from the group consisting of hormones, peptides, enzyme inhibitors, environmental toxins, active pharmaceutical agents, thioles or chelate formers for the on/off control of an ion channel in a membrane.
