The invention concerns a method of generating at least three laser beams (50, 52, 54) of different wavelengths in order to display colour video images. In order to generate light, a pulsed laser (56) is used whose light output is discharged in a pulse and introduced into a medium (60) having non-linear optical properties for exciting a laser beam. In addition to the laser beam generated by this excitation, said medium also discharges a further laser beam whose frequency is the total of or difference between frequencies of the exciting and excited laser beams, owing to the non-linear optical properties of the medium (60). The resultant laser beams generated in the medium (60) and the exciting laser beam are used directly or after frequency-conversion to display the monochrome segments of a colour video image. A device according to the invention contains suitable arrangements for carrying out this method. |
