The invention concerns unsaturated fats with improved low-temperature behaviour which are obtained by: (a) dissociating lauric acid oils into fatty acids and glycerol; (b) subjecting the resultant dissociated fatty acids to fractionated crystallisation; and (c) hydrogenating the fraction of predominantly unsaturated fatty acids, optionally after converting them into low alkyl esters, to form the corresponding unsaturated fatty alcohols in the iodine value range of 85 to 100. The fats are further characterized by improved quality of colour and smell and are suitable for preparing fatty chemical secondary products, such as alkoxylates, ether sulphates, sulphates and esters, for example. |
