abstract In creating an effect in which small droplets are suspended in the air, such as a visual effect, one or more transducers (3, 50) are used to excite a fluid (2) to expel small droplets. The fluid (2) may comprise a weak solution of glycol and may incorporate an electrically conducting additive. Each transducer (3, 50) may be driven in the anti-resonance mode. Each transducer may be associated with a tube (51), there being a flow passage (52) to provide access for fluid from the exterior of the tube (51) to a position immediately above the transducer (50). The apparatus may incorporate means to terminate operation of the apparatus if the temperature and resistivity of the fluid (2) are not within predetermined parameters. A first air stream may flow through a chamber in which the transducers are located, to be subsequently admixed with a second, more swiftly flowing air stream.
