A fatty acid ester of an etherified polyhydric alcohol represented by the following general formula (1): G(A)x(B)y; a process for producing the ester; a cosmetic containing the ester; and a process for producing an etherified polyhydric alcohol via the ester (wherein G represents a residue formed by removing the hydrogen atoms of all the OH groups of a polyhydric alcohol having at least three OH groups; A represents -CH2CH(OH)R or -CHRCH2OH; R represents R1a or -CH¿2?OR?1a; R1a¿ represents C¿1?-C36 alkyl or alkenyl; B represents H or C1-C11 acyl; the sum of x and y represents the number of the OH groups of G; x≥1; y≥1; and at least on of yB represents acyl). The compound (1) is not only useful as an intermediate for producing etherified polyhydric alcohols, but also excellent per se in the performance as a cosmetic base, emulsifier, lubricant, oily component, and the like. |
