These polypeptides can be produced in large quantities and in highly pure form and are as effective as natural lung surfactants. They can be used in the production of pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome in premature babies and adults. In said formula (I): A represents H or Phe, B represents Phe or Trp, and C represents Ile, Leu or Ser.
