abstract |
The progression of HIV infection in humans may be slowed by administering to humans suffering from such infection an agent which suppresses the endogenous production of glucocorticoids in the humans together with a replacement glucocorticoid. Ketoconazole and metyrapone are preferred agents for suppressing the endogenous production of glucocorticoids. Prednisone and dexamethasone are preferred replacement glucocorticoids, where the glucocorticoid is preferably administered in an amount less than the replacement dose. Oral administration of both the replacement glucocorticoid and glucocorticoid suppressor are preferred. |
