titleOfInvention Al2o3 sintering material, process for the production of said material and use thereof
abstract The invention relates to ceramics and concerns Al2O3 sintering materials made from corundum powder, a process for the production of the said materials and their use as, for example, human implants or as a material for tools. According to the invention, high-grade, low-defect Al2O3 sintering materials with very high degrees of hardness or high degrees of hardness and strength are produced containing 95-100 vol.% Al2O3 and a Vickers micro hardness of » 2000 at a test load of 10-100 N; these sintering materials have a relative sinter density δ » 98.5 %, grain structure with a mean grain size of « 1.5 νm and inhomogeneities which occur with a frequency of < 50 x 10+9 m-2. According to the invention, Al¿2?O3 sintering materials are also produced containing 95-100 vol.% Al2O3 and a Vickers micro hardness of » 1750 at a test load of 10-100 N and a bending strength of » 800 MPa, with a relative sinter density δ » 98.5 %, grain structure with a mean grain size of « 2 νm and defect density of < 30 x 10?-3¿. In order to produce Al¿2?O3 sintering materials of this kind from corundum powder, α-Al2O3 powder with defined characteristics is used in at least two different dispersion processes to produce an initially unsintered preliminary product with a relative density δ » 55 % which then undergoes heat treatment and sintering.
