titleOfInvention Proportional fluid sampler
abstract A proportionate fluid flow sampler, particularly for providing laboratory sized samples of milk produced by an animal during a single milking session. A peristaltic pump (1) inducts fluid from a flow line in accordance with pump rotor (10) speed signals (26) provided by an associated controller (2). The controller (2) continually calculates desired pump rotor speed from inputs indicative of instantaneous flow rate (21) desired sample size (22) and expected total flow volume (23). A positional feedback signal (29) produced by an optical sensor (38) and indicative of rotor angular position may also be provided to the controller (2) to cause rotor speed to be increased during the dead spots in the peristaltic pump operation.
