abstract Additives are disclosed, as well as their production and use in cathodically precipitable aqueous electrophoretic enamelling baths, in particular as anti-cratering agents causing no slippage effect, and baths containing the same. The additives are statistical polymers having the schematic formula (I): -[-(CH2CHX)a (CH2CHOR)b (CH2CHOR')c (CH=CH)d-]-n, in which a = 0 to 20 % by moles; b = 50 to 99 % by moles; c = 0 to 50 % by moles; d = 0 to 50 % by moles; n = 5 to 1500; X stands for a substituent different from OR and OR'; R stands for C1- to C10-alkyl; R' stands for H and/or -COR''; R'' stands for C1- to C3-alkyl and the sum c + d equals at least 1 % by moles.
