abstract |
A process is disclosed for the production of bentonite-based sorbents for the absorption of liquids. The process is characterized by the mixing together, compaction and crushing of the following ingredients: (a) a bentonite with a water content of less than 6 wt. %; (b) a moist pulp of fibrous cellulose and inorganic pigments produced in the treatment of waste water from paper manufacturing; (c) anhydrous calcium sulphate or calcium sulphate semihydrate. The relative proportions of bentonite (a), moist pulp (b) and calcium sulphate (c) are selected to ensure that the water content (free water) of the granular material is less than 20 wt. %. |
