abstract Phenylindole compound having general formula (I), wherein R1-R4 are independently hydrogen, deuterium, halogen, alkyl, aryl, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylthio and arylthio; or R?1 and R2¿ and/or R?3 and R4¿ constitute an oxo or thioxo group; or R?1 and R2¿ and/or R?3 and R4¿, respectively, are joined together to form a 3-8 membered spiro ring; are non-cataleptogenic 5-HT¿2? receptor antagonists in vivo and show in a model indicative of antipsychotic effect. Thus the compounds may be useful in the treatment of psychosis, depression, negative symptoms of schizophrenia, hypertension or extrapyramidal side effects induced by antipsychotic drugs.
