titleOfInvention Process for producing neutral to alkaline dye coupling developer pigments
abstract A process is disclosed for producing neutral to alkaline dye coupling developer pigments from an acid activated, smectic stratified silicate and alkaline reacting chemicals for use in carbonless copying paper. The process is characterised in that the acid activated stratified silicate, whose stratified structure is still substantially intact, is reacted without an intermediate drying stage with the alkaline reacting chemicals, until the amorphous silicic acid formed at the corners and edges of the stratified silicate crystallites is partially or completely decomposed without any substantial back-exchange of the hydronium ions embedded between the layers of the statified silicate with alkaline or alkaline earth ions. These dye coupling developer pigments may be used in suspensions at concentrations from 30 % to 50 % by weight, preferably from about 38 % to 48 % by weight.
