abstract |
A spent aqueous alkanolamine solution used in sorbing an acid gas such as H2S or CO2 or both from a hydrocarbon stream is rejuvenated by removing inorganic ions from the spent solution (40), reacting the spent solution by heating it at a temperature of about 220 °F to about 275 °F for about 0.25 to 2 hours in the absence of added catalyst (50) admixing the reacted spent solution with at least one organic base (62) which evolves no inorganic ionic constituent upon dissolution in the spent alkanolamine solution and heating the admixture to reflux (70) to produce a rejuvenated alkanolamine solution. |
